Lunch and Break Preferences for Team Members

One of the key features of Extenteam's internal time-tracking software is setting Break & Lunch preferences for each team member. This article will discuss how this can be set up with your team members.

Setting up Break & Lunch preferences for team members can be done through our internal time tracking software. This can be used by our Partners who want to assign a formal break or lunch to align with their operational preferences.

Partners are not required to assign a break for their team members, as most of the team members take a break based on coverage (working break) and during a few downtimes. Taking breaks is highly encouraged for the health and well-being of team members.

Team Members are responsible for requesting and notifying their direct manager or colleague if they are taking breaks to ensure continuous coverage and to align with the business needs.

Informal Breaks

Informal breaks are for those who choose not to assign a formal break or lunch. But they allow the team member/s to take a short break during downtime.

  • This is the most common preference utilized by our partners in the industry.
  • With informal breaks, we just plot an 8-hour schedule shift into our time-tracking software.

Assigned - Breaks

This is a function within the software that we can program to allow team members to change their status to break within their shift. Rest breaks are to be no longer than 10 minutes.

  • Breaks are offered once or twice daily for full-time employees who work 8 hours or more daily.
  • Breaks can be taken any time after your first 2 hours on the job on a given workday.
  • Rest breaks are on the clock.

Lunch Breaks

Lunch breaks are between 30 minutes and 60 minutes. The amount of time a team member is on a lunch break is not a paid time.

With supervisor's approval or coordination with colleagues, team members can choose the time they take for lunch. Here’s how it works:

  • Lunch breaks are typically taken after the first 3-4 hours on the job, depending on you.
  • Team members must log out or toggle the option on our timesheet software to record their lunch break as unpaid hours.
